From August 2021, Ngo and Sons Academic Coaching will be offering specialist Mathematics Classes for selected Year 9 and 10 students.
These classes are:
Three-hours in length
Designed to be highly competitive, with a greater level of difficulty and expectation that the regular accelerated classes. As such, students will have ample time for revision and practice with difficult questions prior to their school exams
The course is organised into three modules. Students will commence 3 unit Module 1 training in August 2021 and it is expected students will finish the course approximately 9 months early. With the remaining time, students will complete Module 2, consisting of further problem-solving techniques, as well as examination-style questions, to consolidate their knowledge and further develop their critical thinking skills. Module 3 training will be conducted in the lead up to the year 12 trials, with students completing mock-trials to practice working on difficult questions whilst under time-pressure. Students will be exposed to unique techniques which are not taught at school but will aid them in achieving a high mark in their final exams.
We are very excited to be offering this extra opportunity for talented students to challenge and extend themselves further in Mathematics!
Entry Requirement:
All interested students must sit a Specialist Selection Exam.
The Specialist Selection Exam is 45 minutes long and is non-calculator. The exam is designed so that all questions can be completed without a calculator. As such, we want to see how students can critically think and problem solve.
The examinable topics are: algebra, equations, quadratics, curve sketching, trigonometry, area, volume, indices, pythagoras and similar triangles.

What happens after the exam?
We will contact you with the outcome within a week!
If your child is successful, we will contact you with the class day and time. Successful students will only be required to attend the specialist class, not both the regular and the specialist.
If your child is unsuccessful, we will offer your child a position in our regular classes. Your child may choose to resit the selection exam again in future if they would like.
Class Expectations:
Our specialist classes are highly rigorous and competitive, and as such, there are higher expectations:
Homework must be completed to a high standard consistently
Exam results must be consistent with other class members, otherwise students will be returned to their regular classes
